MIND YOUR MONKEYS

January 21, 2025 @ Owatonna Country Club

Overworked? Stressed out? Too much on your plate? Well, these could be symptoms that you're taking on responsibilities that are not actually yours. As a leader, there are many monkeys (tasks) that need to be completed. Great leaders delegate these monkeys to others and ensure that the monkeys stay off of their backs. Unfortunately, too many leaders feel like they have to have all the answers or solve all the problems, thus taking the monkeys back. Learn how to share your monkeys through effective delegation and how to keep these monkeys off your back by teaching others how to solve their own problems. Doing so not only helps you become a better leader but also helps you grow additional leaders in your organization.

Topics: Delegation, coaching, critical thinking

DO HARD THINGS

February 20, 2025 @ Owatonna Country Club

Leadership is not easy. It takes courage to be an effective leader and there are four areas where courage is most critical: Holding high expectations, Addressing performance issues, Recommending personal improvement, and De-escalating emotion.  Learn how to set high expectations and master a simple 3-step process for addressing situations when people don't meet your expectations.  Brainstorm with fellow class members strategies and tips for having the difficult conversation and learn from Jason his 15 tips for the tough talk.  Often these conversations are emotionally charged, so finish by learning how to regulate your emotions and lower the emotions of others.  Truly, you can do hard things with these practical tools.

CONQUER CONFLICT

March 20, 2025 @ Owatonna Country Club

Considering all the different backgrounds, experiences, ethnicities, and belief systems, conflict is a natural part of our working life. Unfortunately, some leaders see conflict as a bad thing and strive as best as they can to avoid it at all costs.  Interestingly, the data speaks differently.  When you embrace conflict and encourage people to express their thoughts and ideas, you get better results.  However, doing so can be tricky.  Learn a 7-step process that will help you master conflict, ensuring, as best as possible, a win-win for all involved.  By using this process, you’ll help find common ground, put together plans that will assist others in getting along, and create an environment where conflict creates growth.

Topics: Conflict resolution, psychological safety, teamwork
